The Syracuse Chargers Rugby Club is a men's club participating in the New York State Rugby Conference of upstate New York. Our players are mostly ex-college rugby players as well as former football and soccer players who enjoy intense, competitive team sports.
Current Syracuse Chargers include former college football and socccer players, wrestlers, former semi-pro football players, and a high-school sprint conference record holder. Our occupations include teachers, engineers, lawyers, graduate students, bartenders, tradesmen, business owners, and salesmen.
Our club competes against other clubs from upstate New York, Pennsylvania and Canada during both the Fall and Spring. Recent accomplishments include the NYSRC championships in 1997, 1999 and 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006. 2003 also brought the club it's first ever Northeast Championship and a chance to compete for the National Championship in Reno, Nevada.
Social events fill the off season. Summer 7's, club and fundraising parties, golf outings, the Empire State Brewing and Music Festival, Winterfest, and much more occur throughout the year.
The Syracuse Chargers are always seeking new players. Athletes of any stripe are encouraged to participate. Successful rugby players may be large or small; attributes of size, speed, quickness, intelligence, and strength are always desired.
So, if you seek a highly competitive athletic outlet and/or an athletically-oriented social organization, please consider contacting us and joining us at practice or a social event at any time during the year. Check out the rest of our website for more information.
